The idea
What is NUNO Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is a Japanese aesthetic in which broken or chipped ceramics are mended with gold — not to hide the damage, but to bring it out as a new kind of beauty, so that the piece can be cherished for years to come. NUNO Kintsugi brings this way of thinking to cloth: stains and marks left on fabric are adorned with gold and cherished as a new source of charm. It is not a technique for mending cloth, but a way of relating to the things we own.
Our thought
The thought behind this experience
When a piece of cloth has fulfilled its original role, its story does not end there.
In Japan, there is a culture of caring for things and continuing to use them — creating new value as they are carried into the future.
NUNO Kintsugi is a programme that lets you experience this way of thinking through a single piece of cloth.
Gold is layered onto beautiful kimono fabric to create a piece unlike any other in the world.
Cloth does not come to an end. Changing its form, it goes on creating new stories.
