Experience 02 — Craftsmanship
TAMATEBAKO
Treasure box | True craftsmanship
About this experience
Beautiful fabric, for a beautiful box.
Take your time choosing a silk obi you love, and admire its pattern and its gold and silver threads. Then finish the lid of a Maison Brijean original paulownia box. More than box-making — the joy of admiring cloth.
The name
What is a tamatebako?
A tamatebako is the beautiful box given by Princess Otohime of the Dragon Palace in the Japanese folktale "Urashima Taro". "Tama" means something beautiful and precious, and "tebako" a box for keeping one's treasured belongings. Today, the word is still fondly used for a treasure box filled with precious and wonderful things.
